Sage smudge with feather

Smudging is a ritual rooted in the shamanic traditions of Indigenous peoples. The process involves cleansing a space, objects, or individuals using the smoke of sacred herbs, resins, flowers, and/or wood. The intention is to clear negative energy, offer protection, and create an environment of clarity and positivity.

During smudging, bundles of herbs or loose leaves are lit, and the smoke is spread by hand, with a feather, or with a fan. The smoke is used with intention and respect to release negative energies and support the well-being of those involved. Smudging is often performed before shamanic rituals, meditation, or ceremonies, but can also be practiced as a daily cleansing ritual.

Although smudging has ancient roots, it is now often embraced by people from different cultures who seek connection, cleansing, and spiritual balance. However, it is important to approach this tradition with awareness, as it is a sacred practice that requires respect and understanding of its original cultural roots.

We recommend smudging beforehand to cleanse the space and the drum materials.
