Are you looking for a deer skin for building a shamanic drum or frame drum? From time to time we receive natural deer skins that are suitable as drum skin for drum building.
Because deer skins depend on local availability and origin, we do not keep them in standard stock. Availability varies per season and size.
Deer skins for shamanic drum
Our deer skins are cleaned naturally and carefully dried. Due to this process, the final diameter is slightly smaller than that of many other drum skins. An important characteristic of deer skin is that it can stretch significantly during mounting. This makes this type of drum skin unique, but also less predictable for beginning drum builders. That is why we mainly recommend deer skin for experienced builders or for those building a drum under guidance in a workshop.

Careful origin of our natural skins
At Sjamaan.nl we consciously choose natural skins that are obtained with respect. The animals were not slaughtered for their skins. The skins are cleaned with care for the animal and the craftsmanship.

Deer skin stretches significantly during mounting. Without experience, it can be difficult to maintain the right tension. We recommend guidance when building your first shamanic drum with deer skin.
How does a shamanic drum made of deer skin sound?
Deer skin produces a mid to low tone, depending on the size of the drum and the tension of the skin. Sometimes the skin needs to be shaved to allow for more vibration.
Where do the deer skins come from?
Our fallow deer and roe deer skins are locally sourced in the Netherlands and carefully processed. We work exclusively with skins from animals that were not slaughtered for their skin.
