Care of a shamanic drum A shamanic drum is alive.* In the center of the drum resides the spirit. The spirit of the drum. This is what we believe and what we have experienced with the drum. During trance journeys, you come to know your drum and the unique qualities of that specific drum, and the spirit of the drum comes to life. The making of the drum is not called a birth process without reason. The drum comes to life the moment you have performed the ceremonies surrounding its creation. In ceremony, the drum reveals its intention to you. And that is when your journey together truly begins. The drum is alive physically as well. The skin responds to the physical conditions of its environment. In a warm, dry space, the skin tightens slightly, while in a cold, humid environment it absorbs moisture and expands. Caring for your shamanic drum is essential. In an overly dry, warm environment or in direct sunlight, the skin can shrink so much that too much tension builds up on the frame. This may cause the frame to crack. To prevent this, never leave your drum outside in direct sunlight or uncovered in a warm car.If you want to play the drum or if a warm, dry environment is unavoidable, lightly mist the drum regularly with a spray bottle. Our spray bottle is filled with 100% sage hydrolate, so in addition to moisturizing, your drum is also energetically cleansed. When the drum is kept in a cold, humid environment, the skin absorbs moisture and the tension decreases. The sound of the drum may become dull because the vibration can no longer fully resonate. You can gently warm the drum near a radiator or by the warmth of a (camp)fire. Drying out causes the skin to become more porous over time. To slow down this process, we have developed a special wax. This wax has a perfectly balanced blend of beeswax and almond oil. Especially during the winter months, when your drum is kept in a warm, dry space, it is nourishing for the skin to be gently massaged with this wax. We have enriched the wax with essential myrrh oil and sage hydrolate for their cleansing qualities. The complete care kit consists of a tin of wax, a spray bottle of sage hydrolate, and two smudge bombs with cleansing energy. All three have been carefully selected for their spiritual qualities to cleanse, protect, and empower your drum.
