Deer skins for shamanic drum and drum building

Are you looking for a deer skin for building a shamanic drum or frame drum? From time to time we receive natural deer skins that are suitable as drum skin for drum building.

type of deer
Our deer skins are cleaned naturally and carefully dried. Due to this process, the final diameter is slightly smaller than that of many other drum skins. An important characteristic of deer skin is that it can stretch significantly during mounting. This makes this type of drum skin unique, but also less predictable for beginning drum builders. That is why we mainly recommend deer skin for experienced builders or for those building a drum under guidance in a workshop. Do you feel a deep connection with the Deer as a power animal and would you like a deer drum that is fully custom made?Via Drumcirkels.nl you can let a personal drum be born. Singing Drum guides this process, including the choice of gemstone, type of wood for the frame and the color of the cord.

Fallow deer skins (Netherlands)

These locally processed fallow deer skins are particularly suitable for building a shamanic drum or frame drum. Freshly cut to 52 cm Suitable for drums up to 45 cm in diameter Also available as a full skin for larger drums or for your own cutting

Roe deer

The roe deer skins are also locally and carefully processed. Freshly cut to 52 cm Suitable for drums up to 45 cm in diameter Also available as a smaller skin for drums up to 35 cm

Careful origin of our natural skins

At Sjamaan.nl we consciously choose natural skins that are obtained with respect. The animals were not slaughtered for their skins. The skins are cleaned with care for the animal and the craftsmanship.

Frequently asked questions about deer skin for a shamanic drum

Is deer skin suitable for a beginning drum builder?

Deer skin stretches significantly during mounting. Without experience, it can be difficult to maintain the right tension. We recommend guidance when building your first shamanic drum with deer skin.

How does a shamanic drum made of deer skin sound?

Deer skin produces a mid to low tone, depending on the size of the drum and the tension of the skin. Sometimes the skin needs to be shaved to allow for more vibration.

Where do the deer skins come from?

Our fallow deer and roe deer skins are locally sourced in the Netherlands and carefully processed. We work exclusively with skins from animals that were not slaughtered for their skin.
